Law enforcement agencies have uncovered a sophisticated operation where smugglers are utilizing courier services to transport cannabis across state lines. A significant seizure occurred in Agartala involving the “Ecom Express” courier company, which facilitates the delivery of goods sold on Flipkart to customers in other states.
Acting on a tip-off, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police Force (GRPF) conducted a joint search of a vehicle belonging to the courier company. During the search, they discovered a substantial quantity of cannabis concealed within the vehicle. Specifically, 59 kilograms of cannabis, packed in 26 packets across six cartons, were recovered. The estimated market value of the seized cannabis is approximately 600,000 rupees.
In connection with this incident, authorities have detained three individuals, including the company’s manager. According to sources, the cannabis was being transported from the company’s branch in RK Nagar, owned by a Kolkata-based entity, to recipients named Sahil in Delhi and Kunal Kumar in Patna. The cannabis was brought to the Agartala railway station for further transport via train.
This incident highlights the growing trend of using courier services for illicit drug trafficking, posing a challenge for law enforcement agencies. This seizure demonstrates the effectiveness of the RPF and GRPF in working together to help stop illegal drug trafficking.
