Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath alleges a deliberate sabotage of power lines in Agartala. CCTV footage reveals suspicious activity.
Tripura woke up to a wave of darkness on Tuesday morning, not because of a natural fault—but what Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath described as a “coordinated and deliberate act of sabotage.”
In a strong statement, the minister claimed an “organized vicious circle” is behind the disruptions affecting over 21 transformers across Agartala and nearby areas.
What Exactly Happened?
CCTV footage from Kamarpukur showed a man on a two-wheeler throwing an object onto a transformer. Moments later, the entire locality went dark.
TSECL (Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited) officials rushed to the scene after complaints. Shockingly, they found transformer gangs removed and cutouts missing in several places. In some areas, heavy objects were thrown onto lines, causing short circuits.
Yet, there was no issue with power generation or supply, clarifying that the blackout was man-made.
Areas Affected by the Sabotage
Residents of these localities were hit hard:
- Dhaleswar Road
- Chandrapur
- Joyguru
- Shivnagar
- Kamarpukur
Minister’s Statement
“What we are witnessing is not a technical failure but a malicious attempt to disrupt daily life,” said Minister Nath.
“These actions are highly dangerous and raise serious security concerns.”
Police Action & Investigation
An FIR has been filed at East Agartala Police Station. Minister Nath has discussed the issue with:
- West Tripura SP
- East Agartala Police Station OC
Police and the IT department are jointly examining further CCTV footage to identify the culprits.
What’s Next?
Officials believe this was a planned attempt to destabilize civic life. TSECL and law enforcement are now tightening surveillance at key transformers across the city.
