Agartala, the capital of the northeastern state of Tripura, is undergoing a major transformation with the Agartala Smart City Limited (ASCL) taking the lead in upgrading the city’s infrastructure. The ASCL has embarked on a project to upgrade roads, drainage systems, and underground utilities to prevent waterlogging and ensure a more efficient urban environment.
Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, the Chief Executive Officer of ASCL, recently inspected the ongoing work in and around Agartala and provided an update to the media. He revealed that a total of 23 kilometers of roads and 46 kilometers of drainage lines are being constructed as part of the project.
Yadav highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating that the city previously lacked a proper drainage system, with some areas relying on kutcha drains and others constructed unscientifically. The ASCL is now focused on building a comprehensive and scientifically-designed drainage network to address this issue.
Construction work began in February and is scheduled to be completed before the arrival of the monsoon season. To prevent waterlogging, roads with higher drainage levels than the carriageway will be raised accordingly.
In addition to the road and drainage upgrades, the ASCL is also working on undergrounding electric lines and water supply systems to enhance the city’s aesthetics and long-term sustainability. Importantly, Yadav assured that the project will not require any land acquisition within the city, minimizing disruptions for residents.
The project is part of the larger Agartala Smart City Mission, which aims to transform the city into a more livable, resilient, and modern urban center. With these infrastructure upgrades, Agartala is set to become a more efficient and attractive city for its residents and visitors alike.
