The Tripura government has taken a significant step towards tribal welfare by sanctioning Rs 141.82 crore under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) for a five-year period. This funding will cover 392 revenue villages in the state, aiming to uplift tribal communities and bridge developmental gaps.
Tripura Power, Agriculture, and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath made the announcement during an event marking Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh in Hejamara and Lefunga RD Blocks. He detailed that the sanctioned amount will be channeled through the Department of Tribal Welfare to support various infrastructure and livelihood initiatives.
Key allocations from the sanctioned amount include Rs 81.69 crore for the construction of new hostels, Multi-Purpose Marketing Centres, and the renovation of existing hostels. Additionally, funds will be used for the establishment of Barmadhikar (FRA) Cells, construction of Anganwadi Centres, fish farming, and horticulture development.
Furthermore, a significant portion of the funding, Rs 42.37 crore, will be dedicated to providing electricity connections to households and public places in tribal areas. Minister Nath emphasized that these initiatives align with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the holistic development of tribal and Janajati communities through targeted schemes like PM Janman and DAJGUA.
The Minister highlighted the government’s focus on education and electricity for tribal communities, stating that providing quality education and infrastructure is essential for the future of the country. He also mentioned a student-focused program conducted under DAJGUA in West Tripura district, including a quiz competition on Janajati development to encourage meaningful discourse and positive thinking among youth.
Overall, the DAJGUA program is viewed as a crucial intervention to address developmental challenges in tribal areas by prioritizing education, healthcare, livelihood, and infrastructure. This initiative aims to empower tribal communities socio-economically in the long run.
