The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Asish Kumar Saha has issued a warning of mass protests due to the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Saha, along with a delegation, met with Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar to demand immediate action to restore peace and security.
Saha expressed serious concerns over the increasing number of attacks on opposition leaders and incidents of violence, many of which he alleged were carried out by individuals with ties to the ruling party. He accused the ruling party of supporting these miscreants in their attacks on opposition leaders, leading to a breakdown of law and order across Tripura.
The Congress leader criticized the lack of police intervention during these attacks, stating that even in the presence of law enforcement personnel, no action was taken to prevent or stop the violence. He highlighted instances where political offices were vandalized, vehicles destroyed, and public meetings disrupted, all contributing to the deteriorating situation in the state.
One particular incident that Saha pointed out was the recent murder of Asish Das in Surma under Dhalai District, allegedly in a premeditated attack. The victim’s family has accused local leaders affiliated with the ruling party of involvement in the murder, further adding to the party’s claims of state-sponsored violence.
Saha demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by an IPS officer to investigate the murder in Surma and other cases of violence. He emphasized the need for urgent action from authorities to address the law and order concerns in Tripura.
The Congress plans to escalate the issue through mass protests if significant steps are not taken by the government and law enforcement to address the security situation in the state. Saha warned that the party would not hesitate to launch a statewide movement if the police fail to respond decisively to the rising violence and attacks on opposition leaders.
