Tipra Motha Party MLA Philip Kumar Reang has raised serious concerns about security at the MLA hostel after being threatened by unidentified miscreants on the night of September 1. Reang has called on Chief Minister Manik Saha to address the issue promptly.
The incident occurred around 10 pm while Reang was on the phone with his family outside his room. He was approached by four individuals who appeared to be intoxicated and threatened him, using abusive language.
Fearing for his safety, Reang immediately notified the Superintendent of Police, West District, who dispatched security forces and police personnel to the MLA hostel. The MLA emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that there are approximately 45 MLAs residing in the hostel and highlighting the potential risk to others if security measures are not improved.
“This is a serious security threat. Today it happened to me, but tomorrow it could happen to someone else. The chief minister must take immediate action to address this major security lapse,” Reang stated.
An investigation has been launched by the police based on the MLA’s complaint. The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of public officials and the need for enhanced security measures at the MLA hostel. Chief Minister Saha has yet to comment on the matter.
