The Tripura government took swift action in response to the escape of six undertrial prisoners from Dharmanagar Sub-Jail in North Tripura on Wednesday, suspending five jail officials and initiating disciplinary proceedings. The incident led to the re-arrest of one of the escaped prisoners.
The Inspector General of Prisons issued an order suspending Sri Dhananjoy Bhattacharya, Jailor of Dharmanagar Sub-Jail, and initiating disciplinary proceedings against him. Bhattacharya has been placed under immediate suspension and is required to remain at Kamalpur Sub-Jail in Dhalai Tripura during this period, with permission needed to leave the headquarters.
Additionally, four warders—Parikhan Jamatia, Gedu Mia, Notan Lodh, and Pallab Kanti Bhowmik—have also been suspended pending disciplinary action. They are required to stay at Kailashahar District Jail in Unakoti Tripura during their suspension and must obtain approval before leaving.
The Tripura government emphasized that these suspensions are part of its commitment to ensuring accountability and maintaining security within correctional facilities. By taking decisive action against the officials involved in the escape of the undertrial prisoners, the government aims to prevent similar incidents in the future and uphold the integrity of the state’s prison system.
The re-arrest of one of the escaped prisoners underscores the importance of swift and effective response measures in addressing security breaches. The government’s actions serve as a reminder of the need for diligence and vigilance in managing correctional facilities to prevent escapes and maintain public safety.
