Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha recently spoke to reporters at his residence about the ongoing infrastructure projects in the state that are set to bring about a significant transformation once completed. One of the major projects highlighted by the CM is the construction of a 16-story building at Gurkhabasti in Agartala, which will serve as the new home for almost all government departments. Designed in a pendulum-style, the multi-storey building will be built to be earthquake-resistant.
In addition to this, the foundation stone for the Unity Mall has been laid at Amtali in West Tripura, and a multi-level car parking facility is in the works in the heart of the city. The state government has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tata Group to convert the iconic Pushpabant Palace into a five-star hotel, a move that the CM believes will transform the state’s landscape.
Chief Minister Saha proudly stated, “We are the second-highest in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and per capita income among northeastern states. The government’s investments in infrastructure are aimed at accelerating growth and development in Tripura.” He also mentioned the increase in the state budget from Rs 27,000 crore in 2024-25 to Rs 32,000 crore in 2025-26, with a net increase of Rs 4,000 crore that he believes is significant for a state of Tripura’s size.
On the topic of employment, the CM revealed that the government has been actively filling vacant posts in various departments, with over 20,000 regular positions filled since 2018 and the process ongoing. Many individuals are also engaged in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the pay gap by regularly releasing Dearness Allowance (DA) to employees. He noted the significant increase in DA from 3% when he assumed office in 2022 to 29% currently, despite resource constraints. Saha explained that one percent DA costs Rs 100 crore for 1.03 lakh employees and approximately 83,000 pensioners in the state.
Overall, the Chief Minister expressed confidence in Tripura’s progress and development trajectory, highlighting the state’s achievements and ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, employment opportunities, and employee welfare.
