The state of Tripura is on the path to becoming a major IT and data hub in Northeast India, as highlighted by S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). With government initiatives and improved infrastructure, Tripura is poised to drive employment opportunities and digital growth in the region.
Krishnan made these remarks while launching the Tripura Cyber Security Policy 2025 (TCSP 2.0) and the Tripura Cyber Security Awareness Month Campaign 2025 (TCSAM 2025) at an event in Agartala on November 11. During his address, he emphasized Tripura’s strategic location and expanding infrastructure, which create favorable conditions for establishing data centers. He also noted that the state’s access to international internet connectivity through Bangladesh, coupled with reliable power and water supply, positions Tripura as an attractive destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and technology investments.
The Secretary highlighted the significance of the recently launched Cyber Bharat Setu initiative, which aims to enhance collaboration between central and state agencies to bolster cybersecurity efforts nationwide. He commended the Tripura government for introducing a comprehensive cyber policy, underscoring the importance of safeguarding citizens from emerging online threats. Krishnan stressed MeitY’s overarching goal of fortifying regional cyber capabilities, increasing vigilance, and enhancing defense mechanisms to build a “cyber-resilient India.”
Krishnan expressed confidence that the two-day workshop associated with the campaign would raise public awareness and enhance local capacity for cyber response and resilience. As part of the event, he unveiled the Tripura Cyber Security Awareness Month 2025 brochure, themed “Cyber Jagrit Tripura.”
The program was attended by Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha, DGP Anurag, Director of Information Technology Jeya Ragul Geshan, and senior officials from both central and state governments. The collective efforts of various stakeholders are expected to propel Tripura towards its vision of becoming a prominent IT and data hub in the Northeast, contributing to the region’s overall digital transformation and economic growth.
