The state government of Tripura is fast-tracking the expansion of National Highway 8 (NH-8) under the leadership of Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. The minister has emphasized the importance of completing the project on time to improve connectivity and drive overall development in the state.
Chowdhury recently chaired a review meeting at the State Secretariat to discuss the progress of the Assam–Agartala National Highway expansion project. The focus of the project is to upgrade the existing four-lane stretch from the Ranir Bazar Fire Station to the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Madhab Bari in the West District.
During the meeting, which was attended by key officials from the Public Works Department, NHIDCL, and other relevant departments, a detailed presentation was given on the current status of the project, highlighting challenges and necessary interventions to expedite the work.
Chowdhury highlighted the urgency of resolving land-related issues to avoid delays and urged all departments involved to identify bottlenecks and find practical solutions to ensure the project is completed within the set timeframe.
The expansion of NH-8 is expected to greatly improve regional connectivity, alleviate traffic congestion, and contribute to the modernization and long-term growth of Tripura’s transport sector. The state government remains committed to strengthening Tripura’s economic and transport infrastructure through the development of a modern, safe, and efficient road network.
