Agartala, Tripura: The picturesque village of Lankamura Kapali Para, famously known as ‘Alpana Gram’ (The Alpana Village), is gearing up for its most vibrant season. Situated on the outskirts of Agartala, this unique destination has transformed into a living art gallery, with traditional mud houses adorned with intricate oil paintings and handmade Alpana (folk art). To celebrate this cultural heritage, the Tripura Department of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA), in collaboration with the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Sanskar Bharati Tripura, is organizing a grand three-day Alpana and Pitha Puli Utsav.
The festival is scheduled to run from January 13 to January 15, 2026. This annual event coincides with Poush Sankranti, a time when tourists from all over the country flock to the village to witness the creative brilliance of local women. The celebrations will feature daily cultural programs from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, showcasing the rich folk traditions of Tripura.
Visitors can expect an immersive experience featuring Alanti, the creation of Burir Ghar (straw huts), traditional clay stoves (Maatir Unun), and the rhythmic sound of the Dheki. The festival will also highlight Bengali culinary delights like Pitha Puli and the soul-stirring melodies of Poush Kirtan. Preparations are currently in full swing, with residents painting new designs on their walls to welcome the thousands of visitors expected this year.
