The vibrant heritage of the Bishnupriya Manipuri community took center stage today as Bishnupriya Manipuri Language Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala. The event, featuring a colorful rally, book launches, and cultural performances, underscored the community’s commitment to preserving its linguistic and cultural roots.
Dignitaries Graced the Occasion
The program was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister Tinku Roy, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, Minister Roy lauded the Bishnupriya Manipuri community for their rich contribution to the social and cultural fabric of Tripura. He emphasized the state government’s dedication to supporting the development of all ethnic languages.
Other notable personalities present at the event included:
- Dr. Asoke Sinha, renowned scholar and community leader.

The celebrations began with a colorful rally that wound through the heart of Agartala, featuring traditional attire, folk music, and slogans promoting the preservation of the mother tongue. Following the rally, the main event at Muktadhara saw:
- Book Unveiling: New literary works in the Bishnupriya Manipuri language were officially released, aiming to enrich the community’s written heritage.
- Cultural Showcase: Traditional dance forms, including the world-renowned Manipuri dance styles, and folk songs were performed by local artists, captivating the audience.
- Linguistic Discussion: Dr. Asoke Sinha and other speakers discussed the historical evolution of the language and the importance of its inclusion in various educational levels.
Preserving a Legacy
Speakers at the conference highlighted that language is the soul of a community. The event served as a platform to demand greater recognition and resources for the promotion of the Bishnupriya Manipuri language in media and education.
