Following the high-profile visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the subsequent criticisms from opposition parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tripura State Committee held a press conference today at the party’s state headquarters. Senior party leaders addressed the media, primarily to highlight the success of the Joint Regional Rajbhasha Sammelan and to respond to the allegations leveled by the Congress and CPI(M).
Key Highlights of the Press Conference:
- Success of Amit Shah’s Visit: The BJP leaders termed the Home Minister’s visit a historic milestone for Tripura. They emphasized that choosing Agartala for a national-level Rajbhasha Sammelan proves the Central Government’s commitment to elevating the North East’s stature in national affairs.
- Refuting “Linguistic Terrorism” Claims: Responding to the Congress party’s protest, the BJP spokesperson clarified that the promotion of Hindi is not an “imposition” but an effort to create a bridge between states. “Amit Shah ji clearly stated that Hindi is the ‘sister’ of all Indian languages, including Bengali and Kokborok. The opposition is trying to incite linguistic communalism for petty political gains,” a leader stated.
- Development Agenda: The party highlighted the ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Smart City Mission and rural connectivity, asserting that the “Double Engine Government” has delivered more in eight years than the opposition did in decades.
- Call for Stability: Amidst the resumption of the Agartala-Dhaka bus service, the BJP credited the strong diplomatic ties and regional stability under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Strategy for TTAADC Elections
With the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections approaching, the BJP leadership expressed supreme confidence. They noted the recent trend of families from the TIPRA Motha and IPFT joining the BJP, claiming it as a mandate for the party’s focus on “Socio-Economic Empowerment” of indigenous communities.
The party concluded by urging the citizens to ignore the “misinformation campaign” of the opposition and to participate in the upcoming developmental initiatives of the state government.
