AGARTALA: In a heartwarming initiative to recognize the tireless efforts of the city’s frontline sanitation workers, the Medical Astrology Research Fraternity organized a special distribution program today. Held at the Vivek Shishu Udyan in the Battala (Bansh Bagan) area, the event focused on the welfare and protection of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) cleaning staff, who maintain the city’s hygiene year-round.
During the ceremony, essential safety gear and clothing were distributed to dozens of workers as a mark of social solidarity and appreciation for their contribution to public health.
Safety First: Equipping the Frontline
The primary objective of today’s program was to ensure that the sanitation workers are equipped with the necessary tools to perform their duties safely. The fraternity highlighted that while these workers are the backbone of the city’s cleanliness, they often face health risks due to a lack of proper protective equipment.
Items Distributed Included:
- Safety Kits: High-quality gloves, face masks, and industrial-grade gumboots.
- Apparel: New clothing and uniforms for the workers.
- Hygiene Supplies: Sanitizers and soaps to promote personal health after work shifts.
Dignitaries in Attendance
The event was graced by several prominent figures from the local administration and the medical astrology community.
- Shri Shyamal Kumar De: Mandal President, who presided over the distribution.
- Dr. Suma Chowdhury: Principal of the Medical Astrology Research Fraternity.
- Senior Members: Several other organizational representatives and social activists were present to support the cause.
Recognizing “Humanity in Service”
Addressing the gathering, Shri Shyamal Kumar De lauded the cleaning staff for their dedication, especially during the challenging summer months and the ongoing election season.
”The cleaning staff of our Municipal Corporation are the silent guardians of Agartala’s health. While we often focus on doctors and medicine, these workers prevent diseases at the source by keeping our streets and drains clean. I thank the Medical Astrology Research Fraternity for stepping forward with this humanitarian gesture. It is our collective duty to ensure their safety and dignity,” the Mandal President stated.
Dr. Suma Chowdhury, Principal of the fraternity, added that the organization believes in a holistic approach to life. “By supporting those who keep our environment clean, we are indirectly supporting the health and ‘well-being’ of every citizen in the capital,” she noted.
Continuing Community Outreach
The Medical Astrology Research Fraternity, known for its various social service activities including blood donation camps, announced that today’s distribution is part of a larger outreach program planned for 2026. The organization intends to conduct health check-up camps specifically for the families of AMC workers in the coming months.
The program concluded with the cleaning staff expressing their gratitude to the organizers, noting that such recognition motivates them to continue their demanding work with renewed vigor.
