AGARTALA: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated its 46th Foundation Day today with great enthusiasm and organizational pride across Tripura. On this day in 1980, the party was officially founded under the visionary leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and a core team of senior leaders. To mark this milestone, a series of commemorative events were organized at the state party headquarters in Agartala, drawing top leadership and hundreds of “Karyakartas.”
The celebrations in the capital were led by State BJP President and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, who hoisted the party flag and paid floral tributes to the portraits of the founding fathers.
Honoring the Legacy of 1980
Speaking on the occasion, Rajib Bhattacharjee recalled the historical significance of April 6, 1980. He reminded the gathering that the BJP emerged from the Jan Sangh with a core mission of “Nation First.”
Key Historical Highlights:

“From Struggle to Success”: President’s Address
Addressing the party workers, Rajib Bhattacharjee emphasized that the BJP’s journey from two seats in Parliament to a majority government is a testament to the sacrifice of millions of workers.
”Today, as we enter our 46th year, we remember the struggles of Atal ji and Advani ji. In Tripura, we have successfully translated their vision into reality by bringing development to the remotest ‘Paras’. Our focus remains on the ‘Antyodaya’ principle—reaching the last person in the line. As we move toward the upcoming TTAADC polls, let this foundation day be a reminder of our commitment to the people of Tripura,” Bhattacharjee asserted.
Statewide Celebrations
While the main event was held in Agartala, similar flag-hoisting ceremonies and “Booth Chalo” programs were conducted in all eight districts. In North Tripura, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha led the celebrations, highlighting the party’s role in transforming the state’s infrastructure and social welfare landscape over the last eight years.
The day concluded with “Sangathanik” (organizational) meetings where leaders interacted with grassroots workers, urging them to strengthen the booth-level committees ahead of the crucial electoral challenges later this month
