AGARTALA: In a significant boost to the state’s digital safety initiatives, the Amtali Police successfully recovered 36 lost and stolen mobile handsets and returned them to their legitimate owners today. The recovery was made possible through the extensive use of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, a specialized government tool designed to track and block missing mobile devices.
A formal handover ceremony was organized at the Amtali Police Station this afternoon, where the faces of many distraught citizens lit up as they were reunited with their expensive smartphones.
Success Through the CEIR Portal
Addressing the media during the event, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Paritosh Das highlighted the critical role of technology in modern policing. He explained that most of these 36 devices had been missing for several months, but once the owners registered their details on the CEIR portal, the police were able to track the IMEI numbers the moment a new SIM card was inserted.
Key Recovery Highlights:
- Total Handsets Handed Over: 36 Smartphones.
- Technology Used: CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) under the Sanchar Saathi initiative.
- Geographic Scope: The phones were traced across various parts of the state and even from neighboring districts.
“A Mobile is Part of One’s Identity”: OC Paritosh Das
OC Paritosh Das personally handed over the phones to the owners after verifying their original purchase documents and identity proofs.
”In today’s age, a mobile phone is more than just a communication device; it is a repository of personal memories, bank details, and an individual’s digital identity. Losing it causes immense mental and financial stress. Our team at Amtali PS has been working tirelessly to monitor the CEIR dashboard. Today’s recovery proves that if citizens use the right portals to report their losses, the police can deliver results,” OC Paritosh Das asserted.
A Message to Citizens
The police have urged the general public not to wait only for a conventional FIR but to immediately register any mobile loss on the www.ceir.gov.in portal.
Steps for Citizens:
- Block the IMEI: As soon as a phone is lost, block the IMEI on CEIR to prevent misuse.
- Notification: The portal automatically alerts the nearest police station when the device becomes active on any network.
- Unblocking: Once the police recover the device, it can be easily unblocked for the original owner’s use.
The recipients expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Amtali Police and the state administration, with many noting that they had completely lost hope of ever getting their devices back.
