AGARTALA: Continuing the Agartala Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) mission to restore and beautify the city’s waterbodies, Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder conducted a field inspection of the ongoing renovation work at Madhyapara Pond today. The visit was part of a broader urban redevelopment plan aimed at improving local ecology and providing residents with clean, accessible public spaces.
The Mayor was accompanied by Corporator Ratna Datta, AMC Commissioner Saju Vaheed, and several senior engineers and officials from the municipal engineering wing.
On-Site Progress Review
During the inspection, Mayor Majumder took stock of the structural improvements being made to the pond’s embankment. He instructed the contractors to prioritize the quality of the protection walls to prevent soil erosion during the upcoming monsoon season.
Key Features of the Renovation Project:
- Protection Walls: Construction of durable boundary walls to secure the pond area.
- Beautification: Plans for a paved walking track around the waterbody and the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting.
- Water Quality: Implementation of natural filtration and de-silting processes to ensure the water remains clean and odor-free.
- Public Amenity: Addition of seating arrangements for senior citizens and local residents to use the area as a recreational spot.
“Transforming Abandoned Spaces”: Mayor’s Address
Speaking to the media at the site, Mayor Dipak Majumder emphasized that the renovation of local ponds like the one in Madhyapara is essential for maintaining the groundwater table and preventing localized flooding.
”Our government is committed to the ‘New Agartala’ vision. For years, many ponds in the heart of our city were neglected and turned into garbage dumping grounds. Under the AMC’s current roadmap, we are rejuvenating 25 such waterbodies. The Madhyapara pond will not just be a water reservoir; it will be transformed into a beautiful community space for the people of this ward,” the Mayor stated.
Administrative Oversight
Corporator Ratna Datta expressed her gratitude to the Mayor for the swift allocation of funds for the project, noting that the local residents had been demanding the restoration of this pond for quite some time. Commissioner Saju Vaheed assured that the project is being monitored closely to ensure completion within the stipulated timeframe, ahead of the festive season.
The delegation also interacted with local residents during the visit, who raised suggestions regarding the installation of an open gym and additional dustbins in the vicinity to maintain the area’s cleanliness post-renovation.
