AGARTALA: Vibrant colors and youthful creativity filled the air at Indranagar as the Indranagar Sanghati Sangha organized a special Sit-and-Draw Competition yesterday. The event was held to celebrate the 165th birth anniversary of Kaviguru Rabindranath Tagore, bringing together hundreds of budding artists from across the town.
The competition was part of the club’s annual cultural calendar, aimed at nurturing artistic talent while connecting the younger generation with the rich literary and cultural heritage of the Nobel laureate.
A Canvas of Imagination
The club premises were transformed into an open-air art studio where children were divided into multiple age-based categories. The themes for the competition were thoughtfully selected to reflect Tagore’s philosophy and his deep love for nature.
Competition Themes:
- Group A (Nursery to Class 2): Landscapes inspired by “Sahaj Path” or freehand drawing.
- Group B (Class 3 to Class 6): Scenes from Tagore’s poems or a portrait of the Kaviguru.
- Group C (Class 7 to Class 10): “Nature and Humanity” – reflecting the global vision of the World Poet.
Promoting Cultural Values
Members of the Indranagar Sanghati Sangha emphasized that such events are crucial in an era dominated by digital screens. By picking up a brush and palette, children are encouraged to observe the world through the poetic lens of Tagore.
”Our goal at Indranagar Sanghati Sangha is to ensure that Rabindranath Tagore remains a living inspiration for our children. Through this sit-and-draw competition, we saw how deeply even the youngest participants connect with his imagery. It’s not just about winning a prize; it’s about the celebration of the ‘Chitto Jetha Bhay-shunyo’ (Where the mind is without fear) spirit,” a senior club official stated.
Community Support and Results
The event saw a high turnout of parents and local residents who gathered to cheer on the participants. Local artists served as judges, evaluating the entries based on creativity, color composition, and thematic relevance.
Event Highlights:
- Participation: Over 200 students from various schools in and around Indranagar participated.
- Awards: Winners were presented with books, art kits, and certificates to encourage their creative pursuits.
- Exhibition: The winning artworks were displayed on the club’s notice board for the local community to appreciate.
The program concluded with a chorus rendition of “Aguner Parashmoni,” leaving a lasting impression on the participants and reinforcing the cultural bond of the Indranagar neighborhood.
