AGARTALA: In a major move to decentralize urban governance and upgrade civic amenities, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a comprehensive structural overhaul of its field administrative units. The Corporation has undertaken a mega project to renovate every existing ward office across the city and completely rebuild those operating out of dilapidated or aging structures.
Under this ongoing master plan, ten brand-new ward offices have already been constructed and made operational. The AMC has finalized architectural and financial blueprints to build a total of 19 new ward administrative buildings, with several other multi-purpose public utility complexes currently in the pipeline.
Site Finalized for Ward No. 16 Office in Ramnagar
As part of this localized infrastructure push, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, accompanied by a team of senior municipal engineers and administrative officials, conducted a high-level field inspection on Saturday at the Bani Vidyapith Higher Secondary School campus in Ramnagar.
The joint delegation formally scouted the area and finalized the exact plot of land designated for the construction of the new Ward No. 16 office. Mayor Majumder announced that physical construction on the site will commence within the next few days.
Key Urban Upgrades Scheduled for the Location:
- Integrated Civic Zone: The new Ward No. 16 administrative building will be strategically constructed right adjacent to the mega overhead water reservoir tank currently being built to permanently solve the long-standing drinking water scarcity issues in the Ramnagar locality.
- Three-Story Smart Design: The proposed building will be a modern, three-story structural complex equipped with digital public service desks, a localized public grievance cell, and ample assembly space for community interactions.
- Integrated Healthcare Hub: To bridge the gap in urban medical facilities, the Mayor revealed that the building will house a fully functional Urban Primary Health Center (UPHC) on one of its floors, offering free diagnostics, baseline check-ups, and essential medicine distribution for neighborhood residents.
“Bringing Governance and Healthcare to the Citizen’s Doorstep”: Mayor Dipak Majumder
Briefing media personnel during the site inspection, Mayor Dipak Majumder emphasized that the AMC’s strategy is focused on transforming standard municipal units into single-window citizen facilitation hubs.
”A ward office is the primary point of contact between urban citizens and the municipal corporation. For years, many of these offices operated out of cramped, dilapidated rooms that lacked basic public seating or digital infrastructure. We are systematically changing that.
Our blueprint for the new Ward No. 16 building is highly innovative. By integrating a fully equipped health center within this three-story municipal office, we are ensuring that local residents—especially senior citizens and young mothers—do not have to travel long distances to apex hospitals for baseline treatments. Furthermore, coupling this building next to the upcoming overhead water tank creates a centralized public utility zone that will dramatically elevate the living standards of Ramnagar,” Mayor Dipak Majumder stated to journalists.
The site inspection concluded with the Mayor directing the engineering wing to complete the structural piling work before the peak monsoon season sets in, ensuring the project meets its strict completion deadline.
