AGARTALA: In a vibrant celebration aimed at honoring, preserving, and showcasing the rich cultural legacy and historic contributions of the indigenous communities, the Janajati Garima Utsav (Tribal Pride Festival) was celebrated with immense grandeur today. The state-level commemorative convention was hosted at the Pragna Bhavan auditorium in Agartala.
The prestigious event was graced by the Governor of Tripura, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, who attended as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, along with a galaxy of senior administrative officials, cultural researchers, and indigenous community leaders from across the state.
The celebrations commenced with the auspicious lighting of the traditional lamp by Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and Minister Bikash Debbarma, followed by a series of spectacular traditional welcome dances performed by various indigenous cultural troupes.
A Platform to Honor Indigenous Identity and Heritage
The Janajati Garima Utsav serves as a significant institutional platform to highlight the central government’s and state administration’s ongoing initiatives toward the holistic socio-economic empowerment of the state’s tribal population.
Key Highlights of the Convention at Pragna Bhavan:
- Preserving Cultural Ethos: Showcasing traditional tribal art forms, indigenous handlooms, and musical heritage to encourage younger generations to stay deeply connected to their ancestral roots.
- Honoring Tribal Icons: Paying rich tributes to historic tribal freedom fighters and indigenous social reformers who fought valiantly against colonial rule and social injustice.
- Developmental Review: Outlining administrative milestones achieved under the Tribal Welfare Department, specifically focusing on expanding quality education, improving healthcare access, and driving digital literacy in remote hill standard pockets.

Addressing the large gathering at Pragna Bhavan, Honorable Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu emphasized that national development is incomplete without the absolute preservation and upliftment of tribal communities.
”The tribal heritage is not just a part of our history; it is the very bedrock of our national identity. The unique traditions, sustainable lifestyle models, and distinct art forms of our indigenous people teach us how to live in absolute harmony with nature. Festivals like the Janajati Garima Utsav are essential to ensure that this invaluable cultural wealth is celebrated on a mainstream stage.
Both the central and state governments are working hand-in-hand to ensure that the fruits of modern development reach the last mile in the hills of Tripura. We are committed to providing top-tier infrastructure, medical accessibility, and economic self-reliance through self-help groups to our tribal youth, while keeping their cultural autonomy completely protected,” Honorable Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu stated during his address.
Empowering Through Education and Skill Development
Speaking at the event, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma reiterated the state’s unwavering commitment to building a future-ready infrastructure for the indigenous population.
”Our focus is firmly fixed on outcome-based education and sustainable livelihood generation for our indigenous brothers and sisters. From expanding Eklavya Model Residential Schools to rolling out specialized entrepreneurship schemes for tribal entrepreneurs, our department is completely transforming the rural economic landscape. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our youth get equal global platforms to excel while proudly carrying forward their tribal legacy,” Minister Bikash Debbarma added.
The day-long celebration concluded with a grand felicitation ceremony where the Governor and the Minister presented special recognition awards to prominent indigenous artists, sports personalities, and progressive farmers for their exemplary contributions to society.
