AGARTALA: In connection with the ongoing criminal investigation, the prime accused, identified as Shubham Biswas, was produced before the West Tripura District and Sessions Court on Thursday under heavy police escort.
During the courtroom proceedings, the investigating officer (IO) submitted a formal prayer before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), seeking a 3-day police remand for the accused to facilitate an uninterrupted custodial interrogation.
Seeking Custodial Remand for Cross-Examination
According to legal sources, the prosecution argued that custodial custody is absolutely vital at this stage to piece together the entire sequence of events and unearth deep-rooted links associated with the case.
Key Objectives of the Police Remand Demand:
- Recovery of Incriminating Evidence: The investigating agency stated that the physical presence of the accused is necessary to recover hidden operational assets, electronic records, or weapons used during the commission of the crime.
- Unmasking Co-Conspirators: Interrogating Shubham in police custody will assist the detectives in identifying and tracking down other accomplices who might be evading the law.
- Verifying Statements: Cross-examining the accused against digital evidence formats and forensic logs collected from the primary crime site.
Defense Opposes Remand Motion
On the other side, the defense counsel strongly opposed the police remand prayer, moving a counter-petition for immediate bail. The defense argued that the charges leveled against Shubham Biswas are groundless and that he is fully prepared to cooperate with the investigation from outside the prison cells.
After hearing both sides of the legal debate, the court reserved its final order on the remand duration. Meanwhile, security was significantly tightened around the court complex to prevent any law and order situations during the transit of the accused.
