AGARTALA: In an innovative step toward tracking grassroots economic development and ensuring the effective deployment of state subsidies, the Tripura Minorities Cooperative Development Corporation Limited (TMCDCL) officially launched its unique interactive campaign, “Chai Pe Charcha” (Discussions Over Tea), today.
The monthly community outreach initiative has been designed to review the real-world progress of minority beneficiaries who have established micro-enterprises using institutional loans provided by the corporation.
Spearheaded by TMCDCL Chairman Jasim Uddin, the inaugural session was hosted in Agartala on Monday, bringing together several first-generation entrepreneurs, minority self-help group leaders, and district administrative officers over an informal tea assembly.
A Shift From Paperwork to Direct Public Interaction
The Tripura Minorities Cooperative Development Corporation provides specialized, low-interest working capital loans to educated unemployed youths, women, and traditional artisans from minority communities to foster self-reliance. The new “Chai Pe Charcha” module marks a major shift from standard administrative desk audits to direct, transparent public communication.
Core Objectives of the Monthly Assembly:
- Assessing Business Profitability: Investigating whether the loan recipients are generating stable profit margins or facing localized market operational blockades.
- Real-Time Grievance Redressal: Creating an open, fear-free conversational space where beneficiaries can share difficulties regarding product marketing, bank link setups, or loan repayment schedules.
- Eradicating Middlemen Exploitation: Ensuring that the disbursed funds are directly utilized for asset creation rather than being diluted by informal local brokers.
“We Want to Know the Ground Reality, Not Just Paper Numbers”: Chairman Jasim Uddin
Addressing the gathered beneficiaries during the informal session, TMCDCL Chairman Jasim Uddin made it clear that the corporation’s responsibility does not end with merely transferring loan amounts into bank accounts.
”Our corporation provides financial loans to support our unemployed youth so they can build sustainable livelihoods and lead a life of absolute dignity. However, we cannot sit comfortably in our office rooms and assume everything is perfect based on paper records. We need to know the actual ground reality. Are our beneficiaries genuinely making profits? Are they facing issues with raw materials or market access? What is their current financial status?
To answer these vital questions, we have launched this ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ initiative. From now on, on the first day of every single month, I will personally sit down with our loan recipients over an informal cup of tea. This will not be a rigid, intimidating official review. It is a friendly conversation to understand their journeys, handhold them through business challenges, and ensure that the welfare vision of our double-engine government is successfully turning our minority youth into completely self-reliant entrepreneurs,” TMCDCL Chairman Jasim Uddin announced during the briefing.
Beneficiaries Appreciate the Handholding Strategy
During the interactive session, several beneficiaries running small poultry units, apparel boutiques, and eco-friendly bamboo workshops shared their success stories and highlighted areas where they require advanced digital marketing support to expand their sales footprint.
Chairman Jasim Uddin instructed accompanying field inspectors to map out a dedicated cluster-level training calendar for the beneficiaries. The corporation plans to host these monthly informal review sessions across different sub-divisions and block centers, ensuring that minority-driven rural businesses remain economically viable and free from administrative bottlenecks.
