AGARTALA: In a major revelation concerning the state’s Public Distribution System (PDS), the Tripura Fair Price Shop Dealers’ Association (Sadar AMC Committee) has alleged that a regular delay in financial clearings by certain ration dealers is causing artificial local stock shortages.
Addressing a formal press conference on Tuesday, the association’s executive panel strongly countered public complaints of commodity shortfalls, labeling the issue an operational bottleneck created by a few delinquent individuals rather than a systemic failure.
Furthermore, the committee stated that a vested interest group is deliberately exploiting these localized delays to tarnish the reputation of the state government’s welfare boards, despite continuous efforts by the food directorate to streamline supply lines.
Financial Indiscipline Causing Localized Supply Delays
The leadership of the Fair Price Shop Association clarified that the supply mechanism operates on an advance payment system. Under this layout, dealers must deposit the required commodity capital on time to clear their respective stock allocations from central godowns.
Key Structural Disclosures Shared During the Briefing:
- Delayed Capital Deposits: The association highlighted that several ration shop owners consistently fail to deposit their lifting capital within the prescribed monthly window, directly causing a delay in the arrival of essential commodities at their counters.
- Adequate Central Buffer Stocks: The committee explicitly assured consumers that there is an absolute sufficiency of food grains across state-managed warehouses, with surplus reserves of high-quality rice, pulses, and sugar safely locked for immediate distribution.
- Political Defamation Plot: The executive panel alleged that a politically motivated circuit is weaponizing these self-inflicted dealer delays to falsely project a breakdown in the state’s public food security framework.
“The Government is Fully Committed to a Transparent PDS Grid”: Association Panel
Addressing media representatives at the Agartala briefing desk, the core members of the Sadar AMC Committee stood firmly in defense of the food department’s ongoing digital tracking and supply reforms.
”We want to make it absolutely clear to the citizens of Agartala that there is zero shortage of essential food items at the administrative level. Our state government is working tirelessly to maintain a highly efficient, transparent, and hassle-free ration management system. The problem arises because a small section of dealers do not deposit their commodity allocation funds within the scheduled dates. When they do not pay on time, their doorstep delivery stalls, leading to empty shelves.
It is deeply unfortunate that a vested interest circle is instantly twisting these isolated incidents to malign the state administration. We appeal to all ration cardholders not to fall prey to such manufactured rumors. The association is actively monitoring these financial gaps and will handhold dealers to ensure that every neighborhood fair price shop operates with optimum stock efficiency,” the executive panel of the Tripura Fair Price Shop Dealers’ Association announced during the press meet.
Demanding Administrative Accountability
The press conference witnessed the active participation of top organizational executives, including Tripura Fair Price Shop Dealers’ Association (Sadar AMC Committee) Vice President Pradip Majumder, Joint Secretary Sajal Kumar Deb, and Treasurer Anish Dey, alongside other senior block coordinators.
The committee concluded the media interaction by advising all sub-divisional fair price shop managers to strictly adhere to the department’s online payment timelines. They warned that the association will not support or defend any individual dealer whose personal financial indiscipline repeatedly compromises the food security of local ration cardholders.
