AGARTALA | June 9, 2026: In a significant stride toward transforming Tripura’s livestock sector, the Minister for Animal Resource Development (ARD), Fisheries, and Scheduled Caste Welfare, Sudhangshu Das, on Tuesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Liquid Nitrogen Production Plant and its newly constructed office building at Radhakishore Nagar in the West Tripura district.
The launch event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including MLA Ratan Chakraborty, MLA Swapna Debbarma, and the Secretary of the ARD Department, Deepa D. Nair, among other high-ranking departmental officials.
The Crucial Role of Liquid Nitrogen in Artificial Insemination
Liquid nitrogen plays a pivotal and irreplaceable role in enhancing the quality and efficacy of artificial insemination (AI) services for livestock development. It is essential for preserving high-quality frozen semen straw at sub-zero temperatures (-196^\circ\text{C}).
With the rapid expansion of cattle artificial insemination programs across Tripura, the demand for frozen semen has surged exponentially. To sustain this momentum, an uninterrupted and seamless supply of liquid nitrogen is absolutely mandatory to deliver timely breeding services at the grass-roots and village levels.
”Our government is committed to making Tripura self-reliant in milk and meat production. This new plant ensures that our artificial insemination drive does not face any logistical bottlenecks, thereby helping farmers upgrade their cattle breeds and multiply their dairy income,” Minister Sudhangshu Das stated during the inaugural ceremony.
Empowering Dairy Farmers and Strengthening Rural Infrastructure
The newly established plant will eliminate the state’s dependency on external procurement, ensuring a steady internal distribution channel for veterinary centers across all eight districts.
| Key Features & Benefits of the New Plant | Direct Impact on Rural Economy |
|---|---|
| Self-Sustaining Supply | Ensures uninterrupted availability of liquid nitrogen for semen preservation. |
| Genetic Improvement | Facilities high-quality cross-breeding, leading to high-yielding milch cows. |
| Doorstep Delivery | Enables veterinary workers to carry viable semen doses to remote rural villages. |
| Infrastructure Boost | Features a modern administrative building to streamline livestock monitoring. |
The attending dignitaries expressed optimism that this modern infrastructure will act as a game-changer for the state’s dairy cooperative ecosystem. Following the formal ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Minister and guests inspected the plant’s machinery and interacted with the technical team regarding its daily production capacity and logistical distribution framework.
