AGARTALA | June 9, 2026: To honor the monumental sacrifice and legacy of the iconic tribal freedom fighter, the Tripura state chapter of the ‘All India Jan Adhikar Suraksha Committee’ (AIJASC) solemnly observed the 127th Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Birsa Munda on Tuesday.
The commemorative event was organized at the bustling Colonel Chowmuhani area in the heart of Agartala, drawing members from various tribal and working-class communities who gathered to pay their respects.
Tributes Paid to the Legendary Tribal Icon
The program commenced with the garlanding of the portrait of Bhagwan Birsa Munda by senior leaders and activists of the committee. Speakers at the event threw light on his historic crusade against British colonial rule and his fierce fight to protect the land, forest (Jal, Jangal, Jameen), and cultural identity of the indigenous people.
”Shaheed Birsa Munda’s uncompromising struggle against oppression remains a guiding light for all of us today. At a time when corporate interests and administrative apathy are trying to infringe upon the rights of the common people, his ideals of mass resistance are more relevant than ever,” a senior leader of the committee remarked during the assembly.
Call to Protect Constitutional and Human Rights
The All India Jan Adhikar Suraksha Committee used the platform to reiterate its ongoing commitment to defending civil and human rights. Leaders expressed concern over the socio-economic challenges currently faced by backward and marginalized sections in the state and country.
The event concluded with a collective pledge by the attendees to continue their democratic struggle for social justice, equal opportunities, and the protection of civil liberties, inspired by the path shown by the great tribal martyr.
