AGARTALA | June 9, 2026: In a major push toward absolute social security and rural empowerment, Tripura Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy on Tuesday announced the successful implementation of four ambitious schemes debuted in the FY 2025–26 state budget.
Addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat (Mahakaran), Minister Roy declared that the government is aggressively rolling out structural welfare financial programs targeted at uplifting newborn girls, financially weak families, and the state’s differently-abled citizens.
Turning the Tide on Child Marriage & Securing the Girl Child
To eradicate child marriage and support economically weaker sections, the department has made two high-impact schemes fully operational:
- Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana: Under this initiative, the state government provides a massive, one-time financial grant of ₹50,000 to families belonging to the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) category to fund their daughters’ marriages at the legal age.
- Mukhyamantri Balika Samriddhi Yojana: To secure the future of newborn girls, the government is opening long-term Fixed Deposits (FD) worth ₹50,000 directly in the name of every eligible newborn girl child in the state.
Infrastructure Overhaul: Smart Classrooms & Women Hostels
Detailing broader child protection and maternal welfare initiatives, the Minister asserted that lakhs of individuals are being supported via regularized social pensions. The government is opening brand new children’s homes, deploying smart classrooms, and sanctioning new Anganwadis specifically inside remote indigenous tribal pockets.
Furthermore, to safely integrate more women into the active workforce, the state is aggressively constructing 10 new Working Women Hostels at a budget layout of nearly ₹114 crore. Minister Roy wrapped up the press brief stating that the ruling government is consistently building robust infrastructure to guarantee that Tripura’s most vulnerable and marginalized communities are never left behind.
