Adani Group, one of India’s leading conglomerates, has announced a monumental investment of Rs 50,000 crore in Northeast India to boost infrastructure, create jobs, and support regional growth. This commitment was made by billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani during the Rising NorthEast Investors Summit, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in attendance.
This investment comes on the heels of a previous pledge of Rs 50,000 crore made by the Adani Group in Assam just three months ago. With a total investment of Rs 1 lakh crore, the conglomerate is signaling a strategic expansion into India’s eastern frontier, with a strong focus on inclusive growth and local development.
Gautam Adani stated, “Three months ago, in Assam, we pledged an investment of Rs 50,000 crore. Today, once again, humbled and inspired by your leadership, I announce that the Adani Group will invest an additional Rs 50,000 crore across the Northeast over the next 10 years.”
The funds will be directed towards various infrastructure projects including renewable energy, power transmission, road construction, digital infrastructure, and skill development centers. Adani emphasized that the initiative will prioritize local jobs, entrepreneurship, and community engagement, aligning with the national development vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047.”
The North East, which has historically been considered peripheral in India’s economic planning, is now being positioned as a strategic and cultural hub. Adani highlighted this shift, attributing it to the government’s focus on regional integration.
Since 2014, the central government has invested approximately Rs 6.2 lakh crore in the region, leading to significant improvements in infrastructure such as road networks and airports. Prime Minister Modi has visited the region 65 times, underscoring its importance in national planning.
The Adani Group’s announcement solidifies its role as a key player in the Northeast’s transformation and further supports the Centre’s ‘Act East’ policy, which aims to enhance connectivity and economic engagement in the region. Gautam Adani concluded by reiterating the group’s commitment to stand beside the people of the Northeast in their dreams, dignity, and destiny.
