Agartala, Tripura: In an effort to keep Agartala city clean, pollution-free, and free from garbage, the Agartala Municipal Corporation had earlier announced the Chief Minister’s Swachhata (Cleanliness) Award, aimed at actively involving city-based clubs, voluntary organisations, and market committees in cleanliness drives.
A preparatory meeting involving all clubs, NGOs, and market committees of Agartala was scheduled to be held on December 28 at Muktadhara Auditorium. However, the meeting has been postponed following the demise of the Hon’ble Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Biswabandhu Sen.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder informed that the meeting will now be held on December 30 at 5:00 PM at Muktadhara Auditorium.
The Mayor explained that the initiative is part of the Chief Minister’s vision to make Agartala a model city in terms of cleanliness and public awareness. Under this programme, clubs and social organisations will take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and environmental hygiene in their respective areas from January 1 to October.
Based on overall performance and cleanliness standards, 13 clubs will be selected for financial awards. The prizes include:
- First Prize: Rs. 3 lakh
- Second Prize: Rs.2 lakh
- Third Prize: Rs. 1 lakh
- Best Performing 10 Clubs: Rs. 50,000 each
Mayor Dipak Majumder stated that the objective of this initiative is to transform every citizen into a stakeholder in keeping the city clean, while encouraging clubs and voluntary organisations to take sustained responsibility for sanitation, waste management, and environmental awareness.
The civic body expressed hope that the programme would significantly enhance community participation and help build a cleaner, healthier Agartala.
