Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder’s proposal for an Astalaxmi Haat at the Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post (ICP) has garnered attention as a potential game-changer for Tripura’s economy and tourism industry. The Mayor emphasized the strategic location of the ICP, which connects Tripura with Bangladesh and sees a significant daily influx of passengers.
Despite a slight decrease in passenger numbers, an average of 2,000 people still pass through the ICP daily. The unique joint retreat ceremony held by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB) is a major attraction for tourists and locals alike. In an effort to further develop the area, facilities such as a visitor gallery, cafeteria, and other amenities have already been established.
Mayor Majumder highlighted the importance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on the North East region, including Tripura. He urged the state government to seize the opportunity to establish an Astalaxmi Haat at the ICP, which would not only showcase the diversity and beauty of the North East but also bolster the state’s economy.
The proposal has the potential to attract more visitors to the region, boosting tourism and creating new opportunities for local businesses. With the support of the government, the establishment of an Astalaxmi Haat at the Agartala-Akhaura ICP could be a significant step towards enhancing Tripura’s economic growth and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the North East.
