Tripura law enforcement has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking, resulting in the seizure of 10.75 kg of ganja and the arrest of two women at Agartala Railway Station. In a joint operation conducted by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Uma Devi (50) and Kajal Devi (35), both residents of Saharsa, Bihar, were apprehended while attempting to smuggle contraband.
The operation, carried out on Saturday evening, led to the recovery of 10.755 kg of dry ganja concealed within two large pit bags. Police sources revealed that the accused intended to transport the drugs out of Tripura via the Deoghar Express, using Agartala Railway Station as a key transit point. The seized ganja is estimated to have a market value of Rs.1.6 lakh.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Agartala GRP Police Station, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the drug trafficking network. The two arrested women will be presented before the court for further legal proceedings.
This seizure follows a previous incident on Friday, where GRP officers discovered 37 kg of abandoned ganja during a routine check at the same railway station. The unclaimed narcotics, estimated to have a market value of Rs.5.55 lakh, were confiscated, and an investigation was launched to determine their origin and intended recipients. Authorities are now focusing on tracing the supply chain and strengthening measures to combat drug smuggling in the region.
