The Agartala Smart City Limited has undertaken a major project to upgrade the roads and drainage systems in Agartala in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season. The initiative also includes underground utilities upgrades to minimize disruption to residents.
Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, the Chief Executive Officer of ASCL, inspected the ongoing work and informed the media about the progress of the project. He stated that 23 kilometers of roads and 46 kilometers of drainage lines are being constructed across the city as part of the infrastructure upgrade.
Dr. Shailesh highlighted the importance of the project, noting that Agartala previously lacked a proper drainage system, with some areas having only kutcha drains or unscientifically constructed drains. The ASCL is now focused on building a comprehensive and scientifically-designed drainage network to address these issues.
Construction work began in February and is expected to be completed before the monsoon arrives. Dr. Shailesh emphasized that roads with drainage levels higher than the carriageway will be raised to prevent waterlogging.
In addition to the drainage and road construction, the ASCL is also working on undergrounding electric lines and water supply systems to improve urban aesthetics and ensure long-term sustainability. Importantly, there will be no need for land acquisition within the city, minimizing disruption to residents.
This project is part of the Agartala Smart City Mission, which aims to transform the capital into a more livable, resilient, and modern urban hub. The upgrades will not only improve the quality of life for residents but also enhance the overall infrastructure of the city.
