The All Tripura School Computer Teachers’ Association (affiliated with Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh – BMS) and a cell of the Theka Mazdoor Sangha held a crucial press conference today at the Agartala Press Club. The association raised urgent demands regarding their service security and the overall structure of computer education in Tripura’s government schools.
The conference was led by the Association President, Shri Bhavesh Chakraborty, along with other senior members of the organization.
Key Demands and Grievances
The leadership expressed deep concern over the current contractual nature of their jobs and the involvement of third-party agencies in the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) education sector.
- Abolition of Third-Party System: The primary demand of the association is for the state government to take direct control of the ICT project. They argued that outsourcing computer education to private agencies hampers both the teachers’ financial security and the quality of education.
- Job Regularization: With the current service term for many teachers set to expire on March 31, the association demanded an immediate extension of their service and a clear roadmap for job regularization.
- Compulsory Subject Status: The teachers urged the government to make Computer Science a compulsory subject from Class VII to XII, ensuring that students receive proper textbooks and structured curriculum support.
- “Equal Pay for Equal Work”: The members pointed out that while they perform duties similar to regularized teachers, their salaries remain stagnant and are often delayed by third-party contractors.
Call for Government Intervention
Addressing the media, President Bhavesh Chakraborty stated that they have consistently placed their demands before the Education Department and the Chief Minister.
”We are the backbone of the digital education system in schools. However, our future remains uncertain due to the contractual nature of our appointments. We urge the ‘Double Engine’ government to include us directly under the Education Department, following the models of states like Assam and Punjab,” said Chakraborty.
Theka Mazdoor Sangha’s Support
Representatives from the Theka Mazdoor Sangha (Contractual Workers’ Union) also expressed their solidarity, noting that the struggle of computer teachers is a part of the larger fight for the rights of contractual workers in the state. They warned that if their demands are not addressed before the end of the financial year on March 31, the association would be forced to intensify its democratic movement across the state.
The press conference concluded with a formal appeal to the Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, to intervene personally and secure the livelihoods of hundreds of computer teachers.
