AI graduate from Andhra Pradesh revolutionizes agriculture for tribal farmers with eco-friendly innovations
Gembali Gowtham, a 30-year-old Data Science and Artificial Intelligence graduate from the Parvathipuram-Manyam district of Andhra Pradesh, is making waves in the agricultural sector with his eco-friendly inventions aimed at empowering tribal farmers. Despite coming from a middle-class family in an underdeveloped region, Gowtham has emerged as an inventor and entrepreneur, designing electric devices to assist small and marginal farmers and tribal communities.
After completing his post-graduation from GITAM University and a master’s in AI in Mumbai, Gowtham initially pursued a career in software. However, his passion for practical solutions led him to join Wassan India, a non-governmental organization focused on sustainable agriculture in rainfed areas. As a Research and Development Engineer at Wassan, Gowtham developed affordable agricultural tools to empower rural farmers.
One of Gowtham’s key inventions is a mini solar water pump designed specifically for tribal farmers in hilltop villages prone to wild elephant attacks. This innovation ensures that farmers have reliable access to water without incurring high costs. Another notable invention is the mini millet dehuller, which reduces the physical strain of manual dehulling for tribal farmers. Additionally, his mini portable sprayer eases the workload for women farmers by being lightweight and efficient.
In addition to his work in agriculture, Gowtham has also made significant contributions to electric mobility. He has developed 13 e-bike models, including unique creations such as India’s first steering-less car, a solar e-bike, and a rocket bike that earned him a Guinness World Record. These e-bikes cater to various groups, including women, children, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities.
In 2024, Gowtham founded his own venture, Nature Farm Easy Tech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., with support from organizations like Wassan, Selco Foundation, and Earthon Foundation. The company focuses on promoting sustainable agriculture through innovative electric tools, aiming to make farming more affordable, efficient, and environmentally friendly. Gowtham is currently working on developing products such as solar tractors, battery-operated tillers, wind-powered tree fans, and electric solar weeders.
With a team of 10 locals at his Research and Development facility, Gowtham is not only contributing to the region’s economic development but also making a positive impact on rural communities. “Creating practical solutions for small farmers has always been my passion. I want to see rural communities thrive with affordable, eco-friendly tools,” Gowtham shared with The New Indian Express.
As he continues to innovate and receive positive feedback from farmers, Gowtham remains motivated to invent more solutions that will benefit agricultural communities. His dedication to empowering farmers through sustainable technology is shaping the future of agriculture in Andhra Pradesh.
