The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, has launched a strong counter-offensive against the opposition, accusing them of deliberately distorting BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi’s remarks made in the Rajya Sabha. The party alleges that opposition leaders are engaging in a campaign of misinformation, twisting facts and misleading the public to gain political advantage.
Manoj Baruah, Chief Spokesperson for the BJP Assam Pradesh, issued an official statement asserting the undeniable reality of Assam’s demographic transformation, particularly in specific districts. He highlighted the significant impact of large-scale migration from East Bengal since the early 20th century, which has fundamentally altered the population structure of several regions.
Baruah specifically addressed the issue within the erstwhile Goalpara district, from which Congress MP Rakibul Hussain was elected, citing it as a prime example of an area heavily impacted by demographic shifts. Furthermore, he pointed to the Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency, where indigenous communities and native residents have faced existential challenges due to sustained migration over the past century.
“No true patriot would condone unchecked and illegal migration. Those who trivialize these concerns for political expediency cannot claim to be true nationalists,” Baruah emphasized.
The BJP spokesperson reiterated the party’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the future of Assam’s indigenous and Indian-origin citizens, despite the opposition’s attempts to sow confusion. He affirmed that the BJP will continue to challenge misleading narratives and protect Assam’s interests against the demographic challenges it faces. This stance from the BJP shows the party’s firm intensions on dealing with the sensitive subject of immigration within the Assam region.
