Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made it clear that he will not tolerate any support for Pakistan within the borders of India. Speaking at a campaign rally in Bajali, Sarma issued a stern warning to what he referred to as “internal enemies” of the nation, stating that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi will handle Pakistanis outside the country, he will deal with those within India.
During the rally, part of the campaign for the second phase of the Panchayat elections, Sarma emphasized the importance of national unity and unwavering support for the armed forces. He also revealed that over 40 individuals have already been arrested in Assam for allegedly defending Pakistan, with more arrests to follow if necessary.
Sarma’s strong stance against individuals supporting Pakistan comes in the wake of escalating tensions between India and its neighboring country. He emphasized the threat posed by enemies within the country, stating that they are far more dangerous than external threats.
In addition to addressing national security concerns, Sarma also turned his attention to the political scenario, sounding the bugle for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. He urged the public not to vote for the Congress party, claiming that even independent candidates are indirectly linked to the Congress.
This is not the first time Sarma has made headlines for his strong words against those supporting Pakistan. During a campaign rally in Dhubri, he warned of “breaking legs” of individuals raising pro-Pakistan slogans, asserting that the state does not need people who praise Pakistan.
Sarma’s tough stance on national security and loyalty to the country has garnered both support and criticism. As tensions continue to simmer between India and Pakistan, it remains to be seen how his words will impact the political landscape in Assam.
