Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a stern warning on May 2, stating that individuals who raise the slogan ‘Pakistan zindabad’ will have their legs broken. Speaking at a campaign rally in Dhubri for the panchayat elections, Sarma emphasized the need for strong action against those who support Pakistan.
Sarma urged the people to pray for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Army in their efforts to combat Pakistani terrorists. He condemned those who praise Pakistan, especially in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists.
“We have arrested a number of individuals for raising pro-Pakistan slogans. If anyone dares to say ‘Pakistan zindabad’, we will not hesitate to take strict action against them,” Sarma declared. He instructed the police to apprehend such individuals without hesitation and ensure they face legal consequences.
The Chief Minister also criticized the previous Congress government in Assam, alleging lack of security and rampant corruption during their tenure. Sarma claimed that under BJP rule, development has flourished in Dhubri and the people feel more secure. He highlighted the improved infrastructure and opportunities for the residents of the state.
Sarma further accused the Congress of neglecting the interests of the people, particularly those from the minority community. He pointed out that communal clashes were more prevalent during Congress rule, whereas the BJP-led government has fostered peace and harmony among different communities.
The ongoing panchayat elections in Assam are being closely watched, with voting taking place in two phases on May 2 and 7. The results will be announced on May 11 after the votes are counted. Sarma’s strong remarks against those supporting Pakistan reflect the growing tensions in the region and the government’s determination to combat terrorism.
