The Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Department, has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in Tripura. On Monday, a joint operation led to the seizure of narcotics worth Rs 14 crore in Khowai district.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the team intercepted an Ashok Leyland truck in the Tuchandrai Bazar area. Upon inspection, they found a hidden stash of 1,40,000 Yaba tablets, a banned psychotropic substance. The driver of the truck was immediately taken into custody, and both the seized narcotics and the arrested individual were handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation.
Authorities suspect that the consignment was intended for cross-border trafficking, given Tripura’s proximity to international borders. This seizure is one of the largest drug hauls in the state this year and underscores the ongoing threat posed by drug smuggling networks in Northeast India.
In an official statement, the Assam Rifles reiterated its commitment to combating illegal activities and maintaining peace and security in the region. The force stressed the importance of collaboration with civil agencies to tackle organized crime and drug trafficking effectively.
This operation is part of a wider effort by central security forces to enhance surveillance and enforcement along vulnerable transit routes used by narcotics traffickers. The successful seizure demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated efforts in combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of communities in the region.
