The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a rally on May 28 in front of their central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, where party leaders and supporters gathered to demand an election roadmap from the interim government. Standing Committee member Salauddin Ahmed addressed the crowd, emphasizing that the BNP did not call for the resignation of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, but rather wanted a clear plan for elections to be held by December.
Ahmed urged unity in demanding a neutral government, democracy, and fair elections, under the leadership of Tarique Rahman. He stressed the importance of putting Bangladesh first and working towards a new future for the country. Ahmed also defended the BNP’s right to demand democratic rights, despite facing criticism from opponents.
Another Standing Committee member, Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed, criticized the current government for neglecting the BNP over the past nine months. He accused the government of focusing on unnecessary projects, such as the Rakhine corridor and Starlink, which he claimed were being arranged for the Myanmar army’s benefit.
Abbas questioned the government’s priorities, arguing that the focus should be on addressing issues closer to home, such as Saint Martin’s and Sajek. He expressed skepticism about the government’s ability to implement meaningful reforms, given their track record of inaction.
During the rally, Tarique Rahman addressed the crowd virtually, outlining plans to collaborate with global e-commerce giants like Amazon and Alibaba, as well as introducing cross-border payment systems like Paypal. The event drew participants from various divisions across Bangladesh, underscoring the widespread support for the BNP’s demands for electoral transparency and accountability.
