In a move aimed at reducing its trade deficit with the United States, Bangladesh has announced it will extend zero-tariff access to an additional 100 US products.
Bangladesh’s Commerce Advisor, Sheikh Bashir Uddin, conveyed this decision in a letter to the US Trade Representative yesterday. The initiative is part of a broader strategy of trade liberalization as Bangladesh prepares to graduate from its Least Developed Country (LDC) status in 2026.
By offering duty-free access to these US goods, Bangladesh hopes to stimulate imports from the US, thereby balancing the flow of trade between the two nations. The decision reflects Bangladesh’s commitment to fostering a more equitable and mutually beneficial trade relationship with the United States as it transitions to a more developed economic standing.
