Illegal Indian immigrants in Bangladesh will be repatriated through diplomatic channels, according to Bangladesh Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. He made this announcement while inaugurating the third floating Border Outpost in Satkhira, as reported by news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
Chowdhury stated that Bangladesh does not resort to forceful actions like India, but prefers to resolve issues through diplomatic means. He emphasized that Bangladesh always adheres to international laws and protocols.
The adviser mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already reached out to India regarding the issue of illegal immigrants. Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain and National Security Adviser and Chief Adviser’s High Representative on Rohingya Affairs Khalilur Rahman are currently engaged in diplomatic discussions with their Indian counterparts.
Chowdhury noted that it has been communicated to India that any Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in India should be repatriated through proper channels. Similarly, if any Indian nationals are found residing in Bangladesh without authorization, they will be sent back following legal procedures.
“We have requested the Indian side to refrain from conducting push-ins and to follow formal repatriation procedures,” the adviser stated.
Chowdhury also highlighted an incident on Friday where an attempt was made by India to push individuals across the Brahmanbaria border, which was thwarted with the assistance of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar members, and local residents. He emphasized the importance of community unity and vigilance in resisting such push-ins.
Overall, Chowdhury’s remarks underscored Bangladesh’s commitment to handling the issue of illegal immigration in a diplomatic and lawful manner, while also urging India to cooperate in the repatriation process.
