Two Bangladeshi Nationals Detained by Police at Checkpoint
Agartala, July 12: Two Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended by police at the Belfang naka point near Bijalbari on Friday evening during a routine check on the Khowai–Mohanpur section of the national highway.
According to police reports, an auto-rickshaw carrying passengers was traveling from Bijalbari towards Khowai when it was stopped at the checkpoint for a routine inspection. The vehicle had two passengers onboard, who initially claimed they were coming from Mohanpur and heading towards Khowai. However, upon further questioning, both individuals confessed to being citizens of Bangladesh.
The two detainees have been identified as Khokon Sarkar and Anik Sarkar. They were taken to the Bijalbari police station for further interrogation. Authorities are currently investigating whether the duo had any local contacts or were part of a larger network. Police have not ruled out the possibility of more arrests in connection with the case.
The incident has raised concerns about illegal immigration and the need for increased border security measures. The police are working to gather more information about the motives behind the individuals’ presence in India and whether they were involved in any illegal activities.
The Bangladeshi High Commission has been informed about the detention of its citizens, and further actions will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation. The police have assured the public that they are committed to maintaining the security and integrity of the border and will take necessary steps to prevent illegal immigration and criminal activities.
