Agartala: A large banyan tree collapsed onto the road near the Shani Temple at Colonel Chowmuhani in Agartala while renovation work of the temple was underway, leading to severe traffic congestion in the area on Tuesday.
According to local sources, the massive tree fell suddenly, blocking a major stretch of the road and disrupting the movement of vehicles. The incident also caused significant damage to several electric poles, resulting in power-related concerns in the surrounding locality.
Residents said that the fallen tree created chaos for commuters, with long traffic snarls reported for several hours. Locals have informed the administration and concerned departments, demanding immediate clearance of the tree, restoration of electricity infrastructure, and proper traffic management.
Authorities are expected to deploy emergency teams to remove the fallen tree and repair the damaged electric poles to restore normalcy at the earliest.
