Biplab Kumar Deb, the Member of Parliament for West Tripura and former Chief Minister, recently met with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to discuss key infrastructure projects in Tripura. The meeting, held on Wednesday, focused on addressing the challenges posed by heavy rainfall in the state, which often affects road quality and durability.
Deb and Gadkari emphasized the need for long-term solutions, particularly the construction of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) roads to enhance the resilience and longevity of the region’s infrastructure. Deb raised concerns over the quality of certain ongoing construction works and proposed sending a high-level inspection team to Tripura to identify shortcomings and recommend corrective measures.
One of the key demands discussed during the meeting was the inclusion of a proper drainage system along National Highway 8 near Santirbazar, a flood-prone area. The Union Ministry has approved this proposal and incorporated it into the Annual Plan to mitigate waterlogging issues and improve road safety and durability.
The progress on major infrastructure works, including the construction of RCC bridges over the Gomati and Muhuri rivers, was also reviewed. Deb and Gadkari agreed to fast-track the Agartala-Sabroom approach road, with a target completion date set for November 2025.
The meeting also included an assessment of 11 ongoing infrastructure projects in Tripura, with an emphasis on maintaining high construction standards and ensuring timely execution of all works. Deb expressed confidence that with continued support from the Union Government, Tripura will witness significant advancements in its road and transport infrastructure in the near future.
