Greater Agartala’s master plan is the initiative of the BJP government: Mayor
A total of 49 gram panchayats will be incorporated into the development of Greater Agartala. In order to avoid any inconvenience in the future and ensure that no projects face obstacles in the city after 20 years, the decision has been made to start determining the land now. With this goal in mind, the Urban Development Department has prepared the master plan for Greater Agartala City through a tender process. A detailed discussion on this master plan was held at the conference hall of the Municipal Corporation on Thursday with the presence of corporators. The meeting was attended by Mayor Deepak Majumdar, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Datta, Commissioner Dr. Deek Chakma, and Toda Commissioner Mihir Kanti Gope, as well as other officials from various state government departments.
The future population of Agartala City, as well as their needs and demands, will all be included in this master plan. After hearing the plan for the master plan of Greater Agartala, the corporators expressed their opinions. The proposed master plan will be kept with the state government’s TUDA and Urban Development Department for further approval. Once approved by the Chief Minister, public feedback will be sought through notification. The proposed master plan for Greater Agartala will then be finalized. At the end of today’s meeting, Mayor Deepak Majumdar stated that the need to create a master plan for Agartala City based on the demands of the city’s residents was not implemented by the previous government. With the coming of the BJP government, a comprehensive plan has been taken to develop and expand Agartala City.
The population of Agartala City has increased significantly, but the infrastructure has not been improved accordingly. Residents of Agartala face daily challenges in areas such as education, health, and tourism. If a medical college needs to be opened in Agartala City after the next few years, or a new university needs to be established, or a park needs to be built with greenery, or an industrial area needs to be designated in the city, all these aspects are being considered in the expanded master plan for Agartala. Additionally, improvements in transportation and provision of clean drinking water for the city’s residents are also part of this master plan.
Recently, the Chief Minister provided Rs 39.25 crore to the Municipal Corporation for urban development projects. Of this amount, 75% will be spent on basic urban and public service areas. The rest will be used for the development of the city’s areas. With a focus on development, Rs 50 lakh will be provided for the development of each ward. This fund will be used to carry out development work in each ward without any hindrance. Various issues and discussions on Agartala City were also discussed in today’s meeting.
The Chief Minister was thanked for providing Rs 39.25 crore for urban development projects by the Mayor.
