Amidst growing internal tensions within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura and increasing conflicts with its alliance partner Tipra Motha, a high-level meeting was convened at the state headquarters in Agartala on Wednesday, October 29.
The closed-door meeting, presided over by BJP North East Coordinator and MP Sambit Patra, and attended by state in-charge Rajdeep Roy, state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, as well as ministers, MLAs, and key office bearers, aimed to address internal dissent and challenges related to the alliance ahead of the upcoming TTAADC and Village Committee elections.
Sources within the party revealed that discussions primarily focused on evaluating organizational weaknesses, revising strategies, and strengthening coordination with Tipra Motha – a crucial ally with significant influence in Tripura’s tribal-dominated areas.
Speaking to the press, BJP Tripura President Rajib Bhattacharjee stated, “Our central leaders, including BJP North East Coordinator and MP Sambit Patra and Prabhari Rajdeep Roy, are present here. Today’s meeting with ministers, MLAs, morcha leaders, and office bearers is geared towards advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ initiatives, as well as commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31.”
He also mentioned that detailed discussions on enhancing the party’s organizational structure were on the agenda. Addressing the recent civil unrest and ensuing violence, Bhattacharjee emphasized the need for unity and collaboration to promote the state’s progress and development. He stressed the importance of contributions from both tribal and non-tribal communities in building a ‘Srestha Tripura’ (Best Tripura) and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to tribal welfare in alignment with the Central government.
Furthermore, Bhattacharjee disclosed that ongoing dialogues with Tipra Motha will continue, with regular meetings planned to address outstanding issues and uphold harmony within the alliance.
