The incumbent BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajiv Bhattacharjee held a lengthy meeting last night at the party headquarters in Krishna Nagar with seven ministers, including IPFT’s Shukla Charan Noatia. While details of the meeting have not been officially disclosed, Rajiv Bhattacharjee did mention on social media that the implementation of an all India programme for the party was discussed.
The meeting was attended by ministers Ratan Lal Nath, Pranjit Singharoy, Sushanta Chowdhury, Tinku Roy, Santana Chakma, Bikash Debbarma, and Shukla Charan Noatia from IPFT. Notably, the two ministers from ‘Tipra Motha’ were absent. Participants appeared serious during the meeting, hinting at important discussions, however, no specifics were revealed to the media. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Minister Sudhangshu Das, who is close to former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, were also absent. Senior party leaders Bipin Debbarma, Rampada Jamatya, and other district council members were present, while MLA Bhagwan Das and party general secretary Amit Rakshit did not attend.
Speculations suggest that the meeting may have addressed issues related to the upcoming elections for the ADC scheduled for April next year, as well as the possibility of Village Committee elections later this year. The growing alienation of ‘Tipra Motha’ and their autonomous actions contrary to the BJP’s interests may have also been discussed. However, no decisions or details have been shared with the media.
One of the most pressing questions arising from the meeting is the post of party president. Since Rajiv Bhattcharjee is already a member of the Rajya Sabha, it is unlikely he will continue in the role, prompting the need for a new appointment. An announcement regarding this is expected next month, although the party has not revealed any hints about who the new state president may be.
