Three individuals, including a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, have been arrested by Tripura Police for allegedly possessing brown sugar valued at around Rs 5 lakh. The arrests were made late Wednesday night after a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Tripura Police.
According to officials, the operation was launched based on a tip-off that some individuals were transporting narcotics. During the raid, three suspects were detained — Sajiul Islam (22) and Farid Akhter (23) from Assam, and Salim Uddin (36), a BSF personnel posted with the 122nd Battalion at Santirbazar in South Tripura district.
Police discovered 128 grams of brown sugar, packed in 10 cases, in their possession. A senior police official stated, “We received specific information that some persons would be travelling with brown sugar. Acting swiftly, the GRP and Tripura Police jointly conducted an operation and detained the trio.”
A case has been registered against the accused, and they will be presented before the court. The market value of the seized contraband is estimated to be around ₹5 lakh.
Authorities are currently conducting investigations to determine whether the suspects are connected to a larger drug trafficking network operating in the region.
