Five Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured and a vehicle was vandalized after an attack by suspected cattle smugglers near the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Sepahijala district. The incident, which occurred on Friday evening along the Bishalgarh-Kamthana Road, has raised concerns about the security situation in the region.
According to reports, the BSF personnel deployed at the Kamthana border outpost attempted to stop a vehicle, but the driver ignored their signals and headed towards a nearby cattle market. The security team followed the vehicle to the market, where a confrontation ensued between them and the suspected smugglers.
Officer-in-Charge Bikash Das of the Bishalgarh Police Station stated that the situation quickly escalated into a violent clash, resulting in injuries to five BSF personnel. The attackers also vandalized the BSF vehicle before fleeing the scene. A formal complaint has been filed, and authorities are working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the assault.
A video of the incident has circulated on social media, showing a senior BSF officer expressing frustration at the lack of intervention by onlookers during the attack. This has sparked outrage within security circles, underscoring the threat posed by organized cattle-smuggling networks operating along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura.
The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by security forces in combating illegal activities near the border. Efforts are being made to enhance security measures and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
