The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took a significant step towards bringing justice in the ongoing Tripura Chit Fund Case by arresting a Director of a Chit fund firm based in Kolkata, West Bengal. The arrest took place on August 11, following a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) issued by Special Judge (CBI), West Tripura, Agartala on July 22.
According to a press release issued by the CBI, the accused Director had been evading court appearances during the trial proceedings. The case, registered by the CBI on March 14, 2023, involves allegations of cheating, criminal breach of trust, and fraudulent default in repayment of deposits on maturity, resulting in a loss of approximately 25 lakh rupees of public money.
After thorough investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against the accused on September 28, 2024. The accused was produced before the Magistrate Court in Kolkata, where a transit remand for three days was granted to facilitate his appearance before the Special Judge (CBI), West Tripura, Agartala for further proceedings in the Tripura Chit Fund Case.
The trial of the case is currently ongoing, as the CBI continues its efforts to hold those responsible for financial fraud and misconduct accountable.
