The South Tripura Bus Owners’ Association celebrated its 35th Foundation Year with a grand ceremony at the Nagerjala Bus Stand in Agartala today. The event was marked by the unveiling of a statue of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee and a special felicitation program for veteran bus operators of the state.
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, joined by Kamal Deb, President of the South Tripura Bus Owners’ Association, the President of the 8-Town Bardowali Mandal, and other prominent transport leaders.
Unveiling of the Statue and Tributes
The ceremony began with the Chief Minister unveiling the statue of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Manik Saha highlighted Dr. Mookerjee’s contribution to national integrity and his vision for a unified India. He lauded the transport association for honoring such a towering historical figure at a busy transit hub like Nagerjala.
Honoring the Veterans
A significant part of the program was the Sammanana (Felicitation) ceremony dedicated to the senior members of the bus business.
- Recognition of Service: Several veteran bus owners who have served the state’s transport sector for decades were honored with mementos and shawls.
- Commitment to Transport: The Chief Minister acknowledged the vital role played by the private transport sector in connecting the remote corners of South Tripura with the capital city.
CM Assures Support for Transport Workers
In his speech, Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the state government’s efforts to modernize transport infrastructure.
”The transport sector is the lifeline of our economy. Our government is committed to improving road conditions and ensuring the welfare of those involved in the transport business. We are working toward making Agartala a seamless transit hub,” the CM stated.
Association President Kamal Deb expressed his gratitude to the state government for its support during challenging times and reiterated the association’s commitment to providing better services to the passengers traveling to the southern districts.
